How To Get Here

Perth is one of the most isolated major cities in the world. The nearest city with a population of more than 100,000 is Adelaide, over 2,100 km (1,305 miles) away.

Perth is geographically closer to both East Timor (2,800 km or 1,700 miles), and Jakarta - Indonesia (3,000 km or 1,900 miles), than to Sydney (3,300 km or 2,100 miles)!

This can make it a great trip either on 2 or more wheels - but good preparation is essential.

  • Have your bike fully serviced and ensure that you have enough tyre tread for at least 5,000 kilometres of travel from Adelaide, Alice Springs, Darwin, Broome (depending on your chosen route) plus extra if you intend to take any detours on the way to the Rally.
  • Special tyres sizes are in limited supply outside Perth and Adelaide - so plan ahead.
  • Tyres wear out faster than you think so we strongly recommend NEW tyres before heading out.
  • For those coming via the Nullarbor there are limited motorcycle service facilities available between

Port Augusta SA, and Kalgoorlie in WA.

  • For those choosing an alternative route the options are just as limited once you reach the "Outback"
  • For those coming via either of the other routes below make sure you do your research - facilities are very limited.

For tips from one of our WA founding members and Dearnley Medalist [Mike Smith (dec)], who made the Nullarbor Crossing a number of times on two wheels, check out his article here:
